Where to stay in Palermo, area by area
The historic centre — Quattro Canti, Kalsa, Ballarò, Vucciria — suits anyone who wants to get around on foot between markets, churches and restaurants, and doesn’t mind a city that stays awake in the evening. Mondello and Sferracavallo are the opposite: the beach a few steps away, a slower pace, and the centre about twenty minutes off. Mazzaforno and Marina di Cinisi work well if you are flying in, or want a base for the coast up to Cefalù.
